Snicker Salad with Carmel Sauce

When the weather turns warm, the last thing you want to do is stay in the kitchen slaving over a hot oven! I have several “no bake” recipes that I will share today. The first is this wonderful Snicker Salad. My sister, Lisa, had told me about this salad. I had ever heard of it before coming to Iowa. Most folks up here call this a salad, I call it dessert. Either way….I Like It!!  It is light and sweet with a tasteful variety of textures. Let me know if you like it!!!

snicker saladI didn’t add a carmel drizzle to this after I made it, but it looks beautiful with it and tastes even better!

You will need:

6 Regular size Snicker’s candy bars

6 Apples – Red Delicious or Granny Smith

1 5 oz. Vanilla Instant Pudding ( Dry)

1/2 C. Milk

1 12oz. Container Cool Whip

1/2 C. Carmel Ice Cream topping, if desired

To start making this scrumptious salad, whisk your pudding along with the milk and Cool Whip until combined. Set aside…..just for a few minutes. Now, chop and de seed the apples. Also, cut the Snickers into bite size pieces. I have tried using the smaller individual wrapped ones and they are much harder to work with. Now its time to put this baby together! Mix your apples, Snickers into the pudding/Cool Whip mixture. Really get in there and mix it good!! At this point you may add a carmel drizzle, if you like. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.

Fruit Salad

fruit salad This fruit salad has me thinking SUMMER!!! Wishful thinking as it is only 28 degrees here in North Central  Iowa this morning! This is the best fruit salad in my opinion. You can make this easily year round because most of the fruit is canned. I have also made this fruit salad with frozen strawberries and blueberries since I moved to Iowa. Most fruit is seasonal and living here, I have had to learn how to modify my recipes. I hope you like this fruit salad!

You will need:

1 29 oz. can Peach Slices

1 20 oz. can Chunk Pineapple

1  small box dry Vanilla Pudding

1 lb. Strawberries, quartered

1 Banana, sliced

1/2 pint Blueberries

1 Bunch Grapes ( I like red)

1-2 Tablespoons Sugar, optional

1/2 C. Coconut flakes

In a large bowl, combine peaches, pineapple and vanilla pudding. This includes juice from the cans. Mix well until pudding is dissolved. Stir in strawberries, banana, blueberries, grapes, coconut and sugar. Refrigerate well. Serve cold.

Broccoli Slaw

My family enjoys this slaw during the summer. It is quick and delicious! You may double the recipe for large gatherings, just make sure you have extra “slaw” dressing.

1 Bag of Broccoli Slaw (available in most grocery stores in prepackaged salad area)

1 Large jar of Marie’s Slaw Dressing

Sunflower Seeds

Raisins or Golden Raisins – which ever you prefer

Pineapple and Apples – optional

Mix all together then refrigerate. Use 1 bag of slaw to 1 jar of slaw dressing.  Add Raisins, Sunflower meats , Pineapple and Apples to taste. If using apples, peel and chop first. And if using pineapple; make sure its diced pineapple and drained.
